It It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Raymond, a life member of Dunvant Male Choir.

Raymond started his working life as a messenger for the Great Western Railway at Nant-y-moel, taking telegraph messages from the station to the village.

Serving as a dispatch rider in the Second World War, he later became a military policeman. On returning to civilian life, he became a police officer with South Wales Police rising to the rank of Sergeant.

On his retirement he joined the Choir and was an accomplished singer and loyal member respected by all who met him for his calm and friendly manner.

Our sympathies go to his son Andrew.

Saturday night saw a concert that will live long in the memory. 125 (+2) years of male choral singing celebrated by Dunvant Male Choir. A marvellous sound from the choir was ably assisted, as ever, by Tony Phipps and D. Huw Rees. And, of course, our soloists and guest accompanist - Sir Bryn Terfel, Angharad Morgan, Annabel Thwaite and Lauren Elizabeth Williams.

Thanks also to Roy Woodward for hosting the evening.

Musical Director Jon Rogers said, “This is one of the proudest moments that I’ve had during my time with the choir. As we emerge from the pandemic, what a platform we now have to build upon and continue this amazing tradition!”

It is with great sadness that we hear of the death in Germany of Hansi Neuhaus a former chairman of Sängervereinigung 1866 Essen-Burgaltendorf choir and an Honorary Life Member of Dunvant Male Voice Choir.

Hansi was in the choir for almost 70 years and was always in the lead in the friendship between Dunvant Male Voice Choir and Sängervereinigung 1866 Essen-Burgaltendorf.

Hansi first came to Dunvant in 1966 and has been involved with exchange visits ever since between the two choirs. In his house a stained glass window with the crests of both choirs took pride of place. Following his visit to Dunvant Hansi and Terry Morgan became life long friends, not only exchanging choir visits but also family holidays.

Our sympathies go out to Hansi's family and all friends in Germany.

It is with great sadness that we received the news of the passing of Ken Graves. Ken was a faithful member of the Bass section of the Choir since 1987.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Elaine and all the members of his family. We will keep you informed of the arrangements of his Funeral when this information is received.

The whole choir would like to say a big thank you to James Oakley who joined us at the last minute at our Christmas Concert 2021 in Capel Y Crwys.

James joined us at the when one of the other guest performers became unwell and we'd like to offer him a big thank you and applause for a great performance.

Singing a perfect mixture of solos and duets, James thrilled our audience with Can Yr Arad Goch, Stesion Strata, Anthem from Chess, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and joint items with the choir were I'll be home for Christmas and O Holy Night.

James, who is from Llannon, is currently studying his A Levels at Ysgol Gyfun y Strade.

Since 2019, he has had opportunities to perform at the St David’s Celebration Concert in the Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli, sharing the stage with international soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, Côr Meibion Pontarddulais and Côr Curiad.

James has taken part in Royal British Legion Remembrance Services, Soirées in Stradey Castle, concerts at Margam Orangery, at the President’s Night of the Llanelli Rotary Club and the Loud Applause Productions’ Night with the Stars Gala Concert in Ffwrnes Theatre, Llanelli. James was the recipient of a Friends of Loud Applause Rising Stars Bursary in 2020.
